After calling Austin, Texas home for 7 years, I now reside in Seattle, Washington!
I am an expert on none of the following but enjoy anything involving:
Intersectionality of Blackness and queerness
Criminal justice and the evolution of criminal laws & sanctions
Identity politics and regulations
The evolution of Black culture in America
Lesbian classical writers and literature
LGBTQ representation in mainstream and eccentric pop culture.
Basically, if it's gay/gay-affirming/gay-adjacent or about Black folks and Black culture, count me in.
Like many of your favorite creators and artists, I do not write full-time. After graduating from the University of Richmond, I worked within both the criminal justice system as well as publishing and media. Nowadays, I dabble in business operations and provide technical solutions for complex problems.
When I'm not writing or working, I enjoy playing and watching soccer (go UWSNT!) and kickboxing. Video games are also a huge pastime of mine and some of my all-time favorites are The Last of Us series, Assassin's Creed, The Dark Pictures Anthology, and Detroit: Becoming Human. I am also obsessed with reading and am constantly listening to music of all genres. Outside of the above, all of my disposable income goes toward traveling and trying new restaurants.
Far Out Black Girl is my attempt to create and shine a light on stories where black girls and women are at the center of focus, specifically narratives that often get overlooked in existing societal and cultural representations. Far Out Black Girl aims to highlight the spectrum of what it means to be a black girl or woman and the various passions, quirks, and identities that we possess, all of which typically result in a label of 'different' or in repurposed terms 'far out'. One way this is accomplished is to saturate the current narrative with authentic stories and varying voices that make up such a spectrum.
Currently, Far Out Black Girl is a hopeful dream spawning from my own lived experience.
TLDR: I write stories for and about little black girls, black young women, and black grown women. Don't worry though, if you don't fall into any of those groups, that's okay! I hope that you'll still connect with something in the Far Out Black Girl universe, but please enjoy with the knowledge that you may not be the content's intended audience and that's okay too.
